![]() Frequently Asked Questions The following are the most common questions we get asked at tournaments or team functions we attend. Q. If I'm a top player on my team won't the schools be out looking for me? A. While most universities have their regular scouts they refer to not all colleges and universities have a staff member that is available to scout and recruit for them during the year. Players outside the top 5% are not picked up by the big scouting sites (scout.com or rivals.com) which leaves the remaining 95% using services or promoting themselves to reach the big schools. Remember the college season and the high school season generally run at the same time, and with so many high schools it's tough to see everyone play. This leaves summer camps, provincial and club teams for their chances to see these players live. Take Calgary for example. In basketball there are 27 public/Catholic high schools and another 15 or so private high schools just in the city limits that makes roughly 42 teams all with top graduating players moving on. 42 top players going for basically 3-5 spots on each of Calgary's Big 3 (U of C, SAIT and MRC). And that's not counting the top players from Airdrie (2 public, 1 Catholic and 1 private high school), Chestermere (1 public high school), Cochrane (2 public, 1 Catholic), Crossfield (1 public), Okotoks (1 public, 1 Catholic), and Springbank (1 public). Q. I was told by a college coach that since I'm only at a 2A school he wouldn't invite me to their ID Camp, that I could come and tryout in the fall but that would be too late to switch schools and play that year. Do I have to move up to get a college coach to look at me? A. Some college coaches have a bias towards 3A and 4A schools. While we can't change a personal bias we will work hard to give you your best shot at getting into ID camps, getting scholarship offers and generally getting you looked at by as many colleges as possible. Talent is talent irregardless of where you happen to play. The biggest thing is just get out there and play. Find a community team, go to basketball camps, get on a court whenever you can! Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic attended a 1A school in Atlanta before being drafted first overall in the NBA draft. Another player has moved on from Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy is Javaris Crittenton who moved on from 1A to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the ACC and has since moved up to the NBA. This small school of 300 total students has a pair of NBA players among their list of graduates. How many 4A high schools with 2000 students can say the same thing? Recently another SWAC Academy grad is looking to be drafted early into the WNBA! What a program! Q. Why free profiles? A. Around the industry there's websites and companies that cost up to $5000. I'm offering exposure on a growing site that gets 85% of it's over 400 monthly views from the United States for nothing. Basically setting up the profile is a quick weekend job that I don't feel right taking huge sums of money for. That said we do offer other packages that we charge for to cover costs but will strive to keep our profiles always free! |
